Illinois football added to its 2024 class on Thursday. The player revealed his decision on social media.

Trey Petty is listed as a 3-star QB from the 2024 class per the 247Sports Composite. He decided to take his talents to Champaign. Petty comes in at 6-foot-1, 187 pounds out of Starkville, Mississippi.

247Sports ranks Petty as the No. 55 QB and No. 26 Mississippi prospect from his class. Indiana was the only other B1G school that showed interest in Petty.

Illinois’ 2024 class now has three commits in it including Petty. Petty is the first QB from the 2024 class to pick the Fighting Illini, however. Three-star DL Angelo McCollum is another one of the more recent Illinois commits.

Bret Bielema had Illinois off to a strong start in 2022. The Fighting Illini went 7-1 in their first eight games of the season. However, Illinois went on to lose three of its last four games to close out the regular season.

Illinois then lost in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Mississippi State 19-10 to end the year at 8-5.

Tommy DeVito manned the QB position this past season in Champaign. DeVito signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent after not being chosen in the 2023 NFL Draft.
