Former Illinois DE Dawuane Smoot is staying in Jacksonville. The Jaguars have re-signed Smoot on Friday.

The news comes from Smoot’s agent, David Canter.

Jacksonville made the move to re-sign Smoot after he set up a visit with the Baltimore Ravens for early next week. According to NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport, Smoot is being signed to a 1-year deal, worth a max value of $6.25 million with $3.25 million guaranteed.

Smoot has played the entirety of his NFL career in Jacksonville. After getting third-team All-B1G recognition in 2016, Smoot was selected No. 68 overall in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Jaguars.

Over 6 seasons, Smoot has played in 87 games. He has logged 17 starts, all coming over the 2020 and ’21 seasons. Smoot has recorded 123 tackles, including 78 solo stops and 22.5 sacks, during his professional career. Last season, Smoot had 21 tackles, including 5 sacks, along with 2 passes defended, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
