Tom Manning will no longer be Iowa State’s offensive coordinator and Nathan Scheelhaase will take over play calling responsibility for the immediate future.

Scheelhaase was a former Illinois quarterback and was the Cyclones’ running game coordinator, RB and WR coach this season.

2022 is Scheelhaase’s fifth season on the Iowa State football staff and in 2019 was listed in 247Sports’ “30Under30” which recognizes rising young talent in coaching positions across the nation.

While on the Cyclone’s staff, Scheelhaase has helped the offense break several school records by finishing with the school’s best total offense, 3rd best scoring offense, and 2nd best scoring offense.

One of the biggest wins in school history, the 34-17 finish over Oregon in last season’s PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, is another part of Scheelhaase’s resume that’s earned him the interim position.

Iowa State has struggled this season and finished the regular season 4-8 with only one conference win. Iowa State finished as the 85th ranked team in Total Offense and looks to improve under Scheelhaase’s tenure.
