Former Illinois star Nick Allegretti played through serious injury during Super Bowl
Former Illinois star Nick Allegretti is now a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, but the most recent title did not come easy.
Sunday night, Kansas City fought back to erase an early 10-point deficit vs. the San Francisco 49ers. Led by Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs eventually pulled off another title with an overtime victory while Allegretti played the entire game.
On Tuesday, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Allegretti sustained a torn UCL in his elbow during the game. That injury occurred in the second quarter, but it did not stop Allegretti from playing all 79 offensive snaps for the Chiefs.

Allegretti and the Chiefs held their Super Bowl parade on Wednesday, and he was asked about the injury. He admitted he “can’t feel much right now” but said he’ll figure things out “in a few weeks.”

Allegretti joined the Chiefs as a 7th-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and he has turned into a key contributor on the offensive line. He has appeared in 74 games with 13 starts and is now prepared to hit free agency with 3 Super Bowl rings.
