A member of the New England Patriots announced his retirement on Tuesday. It was former Illinois TE Matt LaCosse who announced his retirement from his social media account.

LaCosse played in Champaign from 2011-2014. He played in 46 games for the Fighting Illini, and had 397 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns during his time there. LaCosse went un-drafted in the 2015 NFL Draft before signing with the New York Giants. He stayed with the Giants until 2017, before having a stint with the Denver Broncos (2017-2018) and Patriots (2019-2021).

Here’s what LaCosse had to say about his retirement in his Twitter post:

“I am saying goodbye to the game that I love, the game that I have sacrificed so much for, and I want to truly say thank you to those who have sacrificed so much for me” said LaCosse.
