Former Illinois WR commit heading to Ball State
A former member of Illinois’ 2021 recruiting class is now heading to the MAC.
Wide receiver Chevalier Brenson announced on Monday that he has committed to play for Ball State. He had previously committed to Illinois but decided not to ink on the dotted line during the Early Signing Period because of the program’s decision to terminate head coach Lovie Smith.
Brenson pointed to the coaching as the primary reason behind his decision to decommit. The wide receiver revealed that Ball State will be his destination with a post on Twitter.

Brenson is a St. Louis native and received other offers from Memphis, Miami (OH) and Kent State. He joins a Cardinals program that finished the season with a 7-1 record and defeated Buffalo 38-28 in the MAC Championship Game.
Illinois is undergoing some changes, with Bret Bielema taking over the program heading into the 2021 season. The Fighting Illini finished the 2020 campaign with a 2-6 record with wins over Nebraska and Rutgers.
