Isaiah Williams had quite the debut at wide receiver for Illinois during Week 0, and Illini offensive coordinator Tony Petersen wants to see more.

He spoke to Joey Wagner of 247Sports on Monday afternoon about Williams ahead of the team’s next matchup against UTSA. Petersen indicated Illinois will continue to plan on getting him the ball as much as possible:

“Isaiah is a special talent. We want to try to get him the ball as much as we can,” said Petersen. “Our offense is able to get that position the ball naturally anyways but we also are going to have some plays that we know when I call these plays, where he’s at, whether he’s in the slot or an outside receiver position, we know that he’s going to get his touches right there.”

He then continued his answer on Williams in the form of a defensive coordinator giving a scouting report on the opposing team:

“You’ve got to look at it from the defensive personnel,” explained Petersen. “You’ve got to say that they’ve got a slot receiver who looks like he has special talent. He’s got really good hands, he’s fluid, he can make people miss, he’s got speed and you’ve got to account for that on every snap.”

Williams will be looking for his first career game of 100 yards receiving against UTSA. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4.
