Illinois added its first commitment from the state of Michigan since 2016 Tuesday.

Mason Muragin, a 3-star defensive lineman from De La Salle Collegiate in Warren, Michigan, committed to Illinois Tuesday over Central Michigan, Army and others.

Muragin detailed why he picked the Fighting Illini below:

“I think the culture is the main thing. On my visit, I know since Coach Bielema and his staff have only been there for a year, it was great to see the confidence the entire team has in them,” Muragin told 247Sports’ Allen Trieu. “I know Coach B will get Illinois back to winning Big Ten Championships and their players have all the confidence in the world in them and that was one of the biggest parts for me.”

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound lineman totaled 68 tackles, 12.5 sacks and a single-season school record 31 tackles for loss in his junior year at De La Salle Collegiate per 247 Sports.

Muragin is considered to be the No. 22 prospect from the state of Michigan and the No. 93 edge rusher in the country.
