Illinois adds most in-state signees in 20 years via 2022 recruiting class
Illinois is wrapping up its 2022 recruiting class, Bret Bielema’s second as head coach of the Illini.
Upon his arrival to Champaign, Bielema put a priority on recruiting hard within the state of Illinois. In the 2022 recruiting class, he delivered.
When Wednesday finally wrapped up, Illinois had 11 in-state signees for the 2022 cycle. That is the most in-state signees for the program since 2003, a class that would help anchor a team that would make a Rose Bowl appearance after the 2007 season.
Making a statement by staying home.
The most in-state signees since 2003.

The highest-ranked commitment from that group is 3-star ATH Aidan Laughery. Whether or not this group pays dividends in the same way as the group from 2003 remains to be seen, but fans of the Illini are sure to appreciate the work done right at home by Bielema and his staff.
