Illinois has added another signal-caller with two years of eligibility.

On Tuesday, quarterback Ryan Johnson shared his commitment on Twitter:

“So excited to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at the University of Illinois with my 2 years of eligibility,” wrote Johnson. “Very thankful for the opportunity to come down and show my skill set to a very welcoming and prestigious coaching staff. Can’t wait to get to Champaign and work!”

Johnson spent three seasons at Northern Michigan in Division II. In 20 career games, Johnson threw for 2,844 yards while completing 54.9% of passes with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 180 lbs., it will be interesting to see what Johnson brings to Champaign.
Brandon Peters will be back for one more season under center for the Illini but Isaiah Williams is moving from quarterback to wide receiver for head coach Bret Bielema. Hopefully Johnson provides a bit of depth to the position.
