On Friday, it became official.
Chase Brown, a former Western Michigan RB transfer, is now a part of the Illinois Fighting Illini. Brown had been on campus this summer, but didn’t officially join the team until Friday once he participated in Illinois’ first practice.
Brown is a blueshirt addition to the team, meaning he will take up a scholarship from Illinois in 2020. He is also forced to sit out this season after transferring, but will have three years of eligibility left starting in 2020.
Brown’s last name may also be familiar to Illinois fans. Why?
Because his twin brother, Sydney, is on the team as well. Sydney is a sophomore safety for the Fighting Illini, and now the Browns will have representation on both Illinois’ offense and defense.
Chase rushed for 352 yards (with a 5.2 yard per carry average) as a freshman at Western Michigan. He also returned 12 kickoffs while making five tackles on special teams.
During his recruiting process, Chase had offers from Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, Ole Miss and others.
