Illinois basketball has announced a contract extension for coach Brad Underwood that will run through the 2027 season.

The program announced the decision on its Twitter account:

“It was just four years ago that we brought Coach Underwood here with the vision he and I shared of returning Illinois Basketball to national prominence, and he has delivered,” athletic director Josh Whitman said in a statement. “I am excited to continue working alongside him on this journey and look forward to his leadership over these next six years and beyond.”

Underwood has coached at Illinois since 2017. In that span, Underwood has amassed a 71-56 record at the helm for Illinois. Illinois has won 20+ games in the past two seasons. Last season, Illinois won 24 games and reached the round of 32. Illinois captured the Big Ten tournament title in 2021.

Underwood had previous stints at Stephen F. Austin and Oklahoma State. Underwood has an overall coaching record of 123-89. Underwood has a 3-4 record in the NCAA tournament.

Illinois begins the season with a home matchup vs. Rutgers.
