Illinois is going to be a favorite to win the B1G and reach the Final Four next season.

The weekend started off on a positive note on Friday night, with star Ayo Dosunmu announcing that he will be returning to Champaign for his junior season with the Fighting Illini. Big man Kofi Cockburn was waiting until Saturday to make his decision.

Saturday afternoon, Cockburn made it official, saying he will also be returning to Illinois for the 2020-21 season. Cockburn was the B1G’s Freshman of the Year in the 2019-20 season after a sensational first year in Champaign.

“I’m back!” Cockburn wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Cockburn averaged nearly a double-double in his first season at the college level, posting 13.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He also averaged more than 1.0 blocks per contest, and was a problem in the paint on both ends of the court.

Illinois finished last year with a 21-10 record, which included a 13-7 mark in B1G play.

Dosunmu averaged 16.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game last season for the Fighting Illini. With both players returning, Illinois has a strong chance to make a Final Four run and potentially win a B1G regular season title.
