Illinois center opts for transfer portal after two seasons
Illinois sophomore center Jermaine Hamlin will explore opportunities outside of Champaign to continue his college basketball career. 247Sports was able to confirm the news on Monday evening.
Hamlin, a 6-foot-10 center and member of Illinois’ 2019 recruiting class, has seen limited action in the past two seasons with the Fighting Illini. He appeared in a total of 24 games, scoring 23 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
A Lincoln, Illinois native, Hamlin was an unranked member of the 2019 recruiting class. He played in 16 games during the 2019-20 season, scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in 65 total minutes of action. Last year, he appeared in 8 contests and had 8 points and 3 boards.
With Kofi Cockburn an Giorgi Bezhanishvili accounting for most of the minutes in the frontcourt the past two seasons, Hamlin wasn’t able to squeak into the rotation consistently.
Illinois finished the season with a 24-7 record and a 16-4 mark in B1G play. The Illini won the B1G Tournament title.
