Illinois guard Ayo Dosunmu has missed the Illini’s last three games due to a facial injury he suffered on Feb. 23.

However, Illinois coach Brad Underwood hopes to have his star player back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Underwood described Dosunmu as “day-to-day.”

He also said Dosunmu has been going through individual workouts to try to get back into playing shape.

Illinois is fresh off a massive upset over Michigan earlier this week. The Illini are squarely in the hunt for a No. 1 seed alongside Gonzaga, Baylor, Michigan, Ohio State and Iowa.

Underwood isn’t concerned that his team will have any trouble getting back into a rhythm with Dosunmu in the lineup.

So far this season, Dosunmu is averaging 21 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest. He’s a candidate for Big Ten Player of the Year and National Player of the Year.

Illinois will end its regular season against Ohio State on Saturday.

The Big Ten Tournament begins on March 10. Selection Sunday is on March 14.
