Illinois coach Bret Bielema says QB Brandon Peters is 'progressing nicely' after injury vs. Nebraska
Illinois fans held their breath when quarterback Brandon Peters went down with a shoulder injury last week against Nebraska.
They can exhale — at least a little bit.
Illini coach Bret Bielema told reporters Thursday afternoon that Peters threw a ball around the last two days and is “progressing nicely.” Still, the sense is Rutgers transfer Artur Sitkowski will start at QB.
#illini Bret Bielema: Brandon Peters threw the ball Tuesday and Wednesday. Not sure of availability on Saturday but is "progressing nicely."
Will "get him back sooner or later." Sounds like Art Sitkowski will start.

Peters transferred to Illinois from Michigan after the 2018 season and has dealt with his share of injuries in that time. He completed three of his four passes for 35 yards against Nebraska before the injury.
Sitkowski has proven to be a good fallback option for Bielema, though. He won B1G Offensive Player of the Week for his performance, going 12-for-15 for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the 30-22 victory over the Cornhuskers.
Illinois will host UTSA on Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. CT on the B1G Network.
