An Illinois defensive back has entered his name into the NCAA transfer database.

247Sports is reporting that Coran Taylor, who started his career in Champaign as a quarterback, is in the transfer portal. He’s the second player to make the decision since the conclusion of spring practice, along with offensive lineman Brody Wisecarver.

Taylor made the switch from quarterback to safety before the 2021 season. He did not see any game action for the Fighting Illini during Bret Bielema’s first year.

Taylor’s appearances at Illinois came as the team’s quarterback, appearing in 3 contests. He was most notably under center during the 2020 season as injuries and the pandemic hit the team’s QB room hard.

He saw significant time in Illinois’ loss to Purdue, nearly fueling an improbable comeback win. Taylor started the following game against Minnesota.

Taylor completed 23-of-46 passes for 379 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions during his time at Illinois. He also rushed for 85 yards.

As a high school recruit, Taylor was a 3-star prospect in the 2018 recruiting class. He will have two years of eligibility to use at his next destination.
