Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters commented on having his name thrown into the Colorado head coaching job conversation on Monday.

Walters made his stance clear, however, and showed no interest in the job at the moment.

“My home is in Savoy, Illinois,” he said, according to 247Sports’ Jeremy Werner. “And I am the defensive coordinator at the University of Illinois.”

Though he did recognize what being considered for the job means for the work he’s done for the Illini.

“It’s flattering,” Walters said. The recognition is a direct result of what we’ve been able to do here.”

Walters has given the nation a good reason to take notice of him. He has helped Illinois establish one of the top defenses in the B1G.

We’ll see how Illinois and Walters can finish the 2022 season. If things keep trending up, his name will likely be mentioned for other vacancies down the road.
