Oluwole Betiku Jr. did not hear his name called during the 2020 NFL Draft, but the former Illinois defensive end and linebacker is getting his opportunity at the next level.

The New York Giants announced on Tuesday that they have signed 10 rookie free agents. Betiku was one of those players, who will be joining the organization upon passing a physical, the release said. He played one year at Illinois after transferring from USC.

Betiku was a former five-star prospect.

In his lone season with the Illini, Betiku collected 36 tackles, 13 for loss, nine sacks and recovered two fumbles. He helped the Illini reach their first bowl game since the 2014 season, finishing the regular season with a 6-7 record.

Betiku was at USC from 2016 through the 2018 season but didn’t acquire many stats. He still had one year of eligibility remaining but opted to pursue a career in the NFL rather than return to Illinois for his final season. Now, he gets the chance to prove he belongs on the Giants roster in the coming months.
