The injury bug continues to bite Illinois.

On Wednesday morning, Jeremy Werner of the Illini Inquirer reported that defensive tackle Jamal Woods will miss several weeks with a “significant injury,” according to Lovie Smith. Right now, it doesn’t appear to be a season-ending injury.

Woods was carted off the field during Illinois’ B1G opener against Penn State on Friday.

Woods has appeared in all four games for the Illini this season, registering 13 tackles, four for loss and a sack. He’s also broken up three passes.

Last year, he played in 11 games, totaling 24 stops and 3.5 tackles for loss.

Illinois has missed several key players due to injury this year. Wide receivers Mike Dudek and Edwin Carter both suffered season-ending injuries. Quarterback AJ Bush has also missed time due to injury.

The Illini are currently 2-2 on the season and will have an off week this Saturday. Illinois will return to action on Oct. 6, in a cross-division matchup against Rutgers.
