Illinois’ 2021 recruiting class has suffered a blow.
On Monday, the Illini lost a pledge from 3-star athlete Theodore Lockley. He’s the first player in 2021 class to decommit from Illinois. He announced his decision with a post on Twitter.
“I would like to thank the whole coaching staff @ the University of Illinois for taking the time recruiting me and also I would like to thank coach Hudson on being a great coach and recruiting me hard as he did in this process,” Lockley wrote. “I would like to thank the Illinois base fan base for welcoming me in. With that being said I will be decommitting from the University of Illinois and opening my recruitment 100% to all schools!”
Lockley is a 6-foot, 175-pound athlete out of Daytona Beach, Florida. He was a Daytona Beach News-Journal First-Team All-Area selection in 2019. As a receiver, he averaged 23.2 yards per reception and totaled 7 touchdown catches at Mainland High School.
In addition to playing football, Lockley also runs track at the high school level.
Lockley initially committed to Illinois last month before a change of heart. With his decommitment, the Fighting Illini’s 2021 class ranks 57th nationally and 11th in the B1G.
