The Illinois community has supported injured defensive lineman Bobby Roundtree since a swimming incident in Florida hospitalized him over the summer. Now, fans, alumni, students and other supporters are pitching in even more.

Recently, Illinois established a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of Roundtree’s medical expenses. The name of the age is #97Strong: Fight for Bobby Roundtree. The goal is set for $97,000. As of early Thursday afternoon, over $8,000 had already been raised.

According to a report, Roundtree’s costs are expected to hit six figures annually. The donations are in an effort to support him short and long term. After learing of the GoFundMe page, Roundtree expressed his gratitude:

Roundtree was seriously injured in a swimming accident over the summer. He was in the hospital, where he was visited by head coach Lovie Smith and other members of the staff frequently.

Smith nor Roundtree have mentioned what happened in Florida, but Smith has said often that “Bobby Roundtree has a long road ahead.”

Illinois is doing whatever it can to assist one of its family members.
