Illinois is looking good heading into rest of its B1G schedule. The team finished the non-conference schedule undefeated, and is now 3-1 after beating Chattanooga.

This feat is something that hasn’t been accomplished since the 2011 season. The Fighting Illini were coached by Ron Zook that season, who was later fired in Nov. of that year and replaced by interim coach Vic Koenning.

The 2011 Illinois team also started off strong with wins over Arkansas State, South Dakota State, Arizona State, and Western Michigan. That team also won its first two B1G games against Northwestern and Indiana, starting off 6-0 on the season.

Unfortunately, Illinois went on to lose 6 of its last 7. However, Bret Bielema will be looking to make sure that doesn’t happen this time around.

Chase Brown and Tommy DeVito have become a reliable 1-2 punch on offense, and the defense is coming together for the Fighting Illini, especially with the 31-0 shutout on Thursday.

Illinois will be doing everything it can to make a run for the B1G West title in what has been a very close race to this point.

A good test for this team will be when it takes on Wisconsin on Oct. 1. No time has been released for the game just yet.
