Illinois football announces new date for Week 4 game of 2022 season
Illinois has modified its 2022 football schedule. The Week 4 game against Chattanooga originally scheduled for Saturday has been moved up to a Thursday night game, the school announced Monday.
“I’m excited for our players to experience another primetime atmosphere at Memorial Stadium,” Illinois head coach Bret Bielema said in a release. “It’s a unique opportunity to bring a Thursday night game to our schedule. The energy that our fans and the Block I students will bring under the lights will make for a great college football environment.”
The scheduling move should work out well for the Illini from a rest standpoint. Illinois plays its first game in Week 0 (Aug. 27 against Wyoming) and has a bye in Week 3. By playing on Thursday night in Week 4, Bielema’s squad will have an extra day of rest ahead of preparing for a Week 5 trip to Wisconsin on Oct. 1.
While Illinois-Chattanooga is set to be a nigh game in primetime, the athletic department announcement says the specific kickoff time will be announced at a later date.
