Illinois freshman basketball star Ayo Dosunmu is not done yet.

That’s right, the 6-foot-5 guard out of Chicago has announced that he will return to Champaign for his sophomore season, somewhat a surprise to college basketball experts. Dosunmu made the announcement through a video he shared on his Twitter account.

Dosunmu was Illinois’ leading scorer in 2018-19, averaging 13.8 points per game, which ranked 16th in the B1G. He also averaged 14.7 points per contest in conference play.

In his first season with the Illini, Dosunmu was a two-time B1G Freshman of the Week and was selected as a B1G All-Freshman Team and was an All-B1G honorable mention. He became the first true freshman in program history to lead the team in scoring.

He also led the team in assists with 3.3 per game and averaged four rebounds per game, as well.

The Illini finished the season 12-21 and 7-13 in conference play. Clearly, Dosunmu is shooting for bigger and better things in his sophomore season.
