Illinois has finally landed an in-state prospect.

Thursday, the Fighting Illini received a verbal commitment from three-star offensive lineman Josh Kreutz. The Wilmette, Illinois native is the first in-state talent to pledge to Lovie Smith and company during the 2021 recruiting class. He’s the 13th player in the cycle to commit.

“I am committing to the University of Illinois,” Kreutz wrote on Twitter.

Kreutz is a 6-foot-2, 260-pound center in the 2021 recruiting class. He’s ranked as the No. 15 center and the No. 29 prospect out of the state of Illinois, according to 247Sports.

Along with Illinois, Kreutz received offers from Ball State, Memphis, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Wyoming.

Kreutz is the son of former NFL player Olin Kreutz, who was a six-time Pro Bowl selection with the Chicago Bears. Olin Kreutz played his college football at Washington.

Illinois’ 2021 class ranks 54th nationally and 11th in the B1G.
