It’s been slow moving for Illinois on the recruiting front during the 2021 cycle, but the Illini have finally landed a second pledge.

Three-star wide receiver Prince Green gave his verbal commitment to the Fighting Illini on Sunday and is now just the second member of Lovie Smith’s 2021 class. The Griffin, Georgia native picked Illinois over offers from Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Akron, South Alabama, Coast Carolina and others.

“After prayer and conversations with my family, I would like to commit to the University of Illinois,” Green said in a statement on Twitter.

Green is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound wide receiver who ranks as one of the top 200 players at his position in the 2021 class, and is also one of the top 100 overall players from the state of Georgia. He received offers from 10 other programs outside of Illinois.

Prior to Green’s commitment, Illinois had just one member of its 2021 class, three-star dual-threat quarterback Samari Collier. The Illini landed the pledge from Collier in December 2019.

Smith has been active in the transfer portal during his time as the head coach at Illinois and has tended to be operate on the recruiting front closer to the Early Signing Period. Still, having only two verbal pledges this late in the game is a bit of a surprise.

Illinois currently owns the worst class in the B1G and ranks No. 81 nationally.
