Illinois hoops dipped into the transfer portal Monday and earned a commitment from former Utah Valley small forward/shooting guard Justin Harmon.

If you followed college basketball closely this past season, Harmon’s name may be familiar. He was one of the leading stars on a Utah Valley team that was trending to make the NCAA Tournament all season. However, the Wolverines fell to Southern Utah in heartbreaking fashion in the semifinal round of the WAC Tournament. Utah Valley lost just 9 games in 2022-23.

Howard, who hails from Chicago, played 2 seasons in Orem and announced that he would be entering the transfer portal at the end of the season. Now, he’s heading back to his home state with the Fighting Illini.

Harmon averaged 14 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game with the Wolverines last season. He has some experience against strong competition too, dropping 19 points in games against BYU, Wake Forest and Boise St. He also scored 13 in Utah Valley’s win over Oregon in December.
