An Illinois defensive back has made the decision to opt out of the 2020 season. Cornerback Nick Walker will not be suiting up for the Illini this fall, according to Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer.

Walker has spent the last two seasons with Illinois after transferring from Cisco College in Texas. Over the past two years, the cornerback has appeared in 11 games in the secondary and on special teams. He’s totaled six tackles, three in each season.

Before coming to Illinois, Walker was a standout at Cisco College. During the 2017 season, he was credited with 30 stops, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble in nine games.

The news of Walker’s decision to opt out comes the same day that it was reported that Cal graduate transfer and defensive lineman Chinedu Udeogu was no longer on the roster. It’s unclear whether Walker plans to return to the team for the 2021 season, or if he’ll continue to have a role with the program that doesn’t include playing.

Several players across college football have made the decision to opt out of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
