Illinois has gotten its latest commit for the 2022 recruiting class and it comes in the form of a walk-on kicker.

Will McManus out of New Jersey announced his decision to commit to the Fighting Illini via his Twitter account on Wednesday evening.

Just a few weeks ago, McManus received a walk-on offer from Illinois. It came hours after he announced that he was opening his recruitment back up (he was originally committed to Navy).

According to Kohls Kicking, he’s considered the No. 26 kicker in the class of 2022.

This is a big commitment for Illinois as the program will need to replace starting kicker James McCourt after this season. That will be some big shoes to fill as McCourt is 8-for-12 from field goal range this season and hasn’t missed an extra point (14-for-14).

Per 247Sports, McManus is teammates with Owen Anderson, a 3-star tight end who also is committed to Illinois. That potentially played a big part in McManus deciding to commit to the school.

Even though it’s as a walk-on, McManus will get every opportunity next season to win that starting job.
