For the first time in two months, Illinois has received a verbal commitment out of the 2020 recruiting class.

Monday evening, defensive tackle Quinton McCoy announced via Twitter that he was committing to Illinois. He becomes the third player to commit to the Illini in the 2020 class.

“I would like to thank everyone that has put in their time to make me a better person and athlete,” McCoy wrote. “A special thanks to my Mom and Dad for breaking their backs to make sure I have everything I need to be successful. With that being said I’m extremely blessed and excited to announce my commitment to Illinois University.”

McCoy is the first defensive player to join Illinois’ 2020 class. Previously, the Illini have landed commitments from four-star wide receiver Jadon Thompson and four-star running back Reggie Love.

Right now, McCoy does not have any rankings according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive tackle out of Valrico, Fla., did receive nine offers during the recruiting process, choosing the Illini over Louisville, Kentucky and Iowa State, among others.

Illinois’ 2020 recruiting class currently ranks 84th nationally and last in the B1G.
