Recruiting isn’t everything.

But, it’s a big thing.

You don’t need 5-star prospects left and right to win conference titles or national titles, but you have to have really talented players that fit your system. That much is certain.

On Friday night, Illinois got a massive boost on the recruiting trail. The Fighting Illini received a commit from 4-star QB C.J. Dixon, who’s in the Class of 2020. Dixon ranks as the No. 16 pro-style QB in his class and held offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Florida and others.

Illinois’ 2020 class still ranks last in the B1G with Dixon committed, but he is now the top Fighting Illini commit. A 4-star QB can also change a program if all goes well. The same can’t exactly be said for other positions.

Dixon, a 6-foot-5 prospect from Loganville, Ga., hasn’t yet started a game for his school at the varsity level. His school, Grayson, is considered a powerhouse in the state of Georgia.
