Illinois has a new player at the top of its commitment list.

Saturday, 3-star wide receiver Shawn Miller verbally committed to Illinois, picking Bret Bielema’s team over offers from 10 other schools. He had been considering Arizona, Indiana, Michigan State and West Virginia most heavily in recent weeks.

Miller became the highest-ranking player to join the Fighting Illini’s 2022 class. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver from IMG Academy cracks the Top 500 in 247Sports Composite, coming in at No. 496.

From 247Sports recruiting analyst Blair Angulo:

Lean build and projectable frame. Agile, short-burst pass-catcher who thrives on underneath routes. Does well to generate space early in routes. Can beat defenses over the top with his speed and positioning. Matches up well against corners that try to get physical near line of scrimmage. Tough after the catch and willing to lower shoulder for extra yardage.

Miller is ranked as the No. 67 wide receiver of the cycle and is also the No. 68 prospect out of Florida. Other schools to extend offers included Arizona State, Miami, NC State, Old Dominion, Syracuse and UNLV.

With Miller’s pledge, Illinois has jumped up to No. 36 in the national recruiting rankings and sits at No. 8 in the B1G. There are 15 players currently committed to Bielema’s squad.
