Illinois added some talent to its future quarterback room this weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, three-star dual-threat quarterback Samari Collier announced via Twitter that he has verbally committed to the Illini. He is a native of DeSoto, Texas and is a member of the 2021 recruiting class.

“After a great conversation with my family and coaches I’ve decided to verbally commit to the University of Illinois,” Collier wrote.

According to 247Sports, Collier is ranked as the No. 26 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 class. He’s listed as the No. 113 ranked talent from Texas and cracks the top 900 overall for his cycle.

Early in his recruitment, Collier has received offers from Illinois and New Mexico State.

Collier is the first player to commit to Illinois in the 2021 class.
