A questionable targeting call has struck the Redbox Bowl.

In the fourth quarter of Monday’s game between Illinois and Cal in the Redbox Bowl, Illinois linebacker Milo Eifler appeared to deliver one of the best hits of the day, dropping Marcel Dancy short of the first down marker. At first glimpse it appeared to be a clean hit, but Eifler was flagged for targeting.

The play went under review, and the call was upheld. Eifler’s helmet made contact with Dancy’s helmet, which made the official throw the flag. Eifler appeared to lead with the shoulder, but his argument wasn’t heard by the officiating crew.

Eifler had 59 tackles and nine tackles for loss this season. Below is the hit that Eifler delivered on Dancy. Should he have been ejected?
