Illinois freshman wide receiver Edwin Carter will miss the remainder of the 2018 season due to a knee injury sustained in Saturday’s win against Western Illinois. Head coach Lovie Smith made the announcement at his weekly press conference Monday.
Carter made an impressive leaping catch before going end-over-end for the touchdowns. But a hard hit to the knee forced Carter out of the game and will now mark the end of his first season.
Last week, Smith announced that receiver Mike Dudek had also been lost for the season.

Carter had two catches for 34 yards and two touchdowns for the Illini on Saturday in his first collegiate appearance. He did not see the field in Week 1 against Kent State.
Illinois has struggled with quality depth over the last two years and injuries to Dudek and Carter certainly hurt this team’s development, especially at a crucial position.
Along with injuries to wide receiver, quarterback AJ Bush also suffered an injury against Western Illinois and was forced to miss a good portion of Saturday’s contest.
Illinois will play USF at Soldier Field on Saturday.
