Illinois is heading into a tough game against Michigan, and it remains to be seen who will be taking snaps for the Illini in Week 7.

Starting quarterback Brandon Peters was removed from the Week 6 loss against Minnesota due to injury with Matt Robinson replacing him. The status for Peters remains unknown with highly-touted freshman Isaiah Williams also battling an injury.

On Monday, offensive coordinator Rody Smith discussed the situation inside the quarterback room. Even if the Illini do not have Williams and Peters, Smith knows Illinois needs to get two of the remaining guys ready for this week’s game.

Jeremy Werner with the Illini Inquirer shared Smith’s comments:

“We better have two quarterbacks ready because you never know what’s going to happen,” Rod Smith said. “We have a group of five in my room. Depending on who can get reps and who won’t, we’ll divvy it up then. Brandon and Isaiah both were on the injury list, I guess, so you got Matt Robinson, Coran Taylor and Cam Miller. If the other guys can’t go, we’ll get them reps and get them ready to go. If the other guys are healthy, we’ll definitely get them reps and get them up to speed.”

Obviously, Illinois would love to have all options available against Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines. We will have to wait and see who is healthy and who gets the nod in Week 7.
