Illinois is making room for another addition to the 2021 recruiting class.

Monday, 3-star safety Kionte Curry announced via Twitter that he has committed to Illinois. Shortly before making that decision, Curry decommitted from Dodge City Community College. He will become the 17th high school prospect to join the Fighting Illini’s 2021 class.

According to 247Sports, eight programs offered Curry during the recruiting period. In addition to Illinois, the safety from Cocoa, Florida received interest from Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kentucky, Nebraska, UCF, Washington State and West Virginia.

Curry ranks as the No. 136 safety in the 2021 class and is one of the Top 250 prospects from the talent-filled state of Florida. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back will be the seventh recruit from the Sunshine State to commit to the Illini.

Illinois’ 2021 class still ranks last in the B1G and 74th nationally. But new head coach Bret Bielema has done some recruiting through the NCAA transfer portal to make up for some of the concerns recruiting at the high school level.

The Fighting Illini were 2-6 last season, in what was the final year of the Lovie Smith era.
