Illinois has picked up a veteran piece to the wide receiver room for 2022, head coach Bret Bielema announced on Monday.

According to Jeremy Werner with Illini Inquirer, Bielema confirmed the addition of wide receiver Kody Case out of South Dakota to the team. Case could be used as a piece at slot receiver and in the return game.

The 5-foot-10 Case 13 catches for 168 yards and a touchdown while appearing in 10 games during the 2021 season. Case had a much stronger year in 2019, posting 28 catches for 396 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Coyotes.

Case does bring with him experience as a returner of both punts and kickoffs during his time at South Dakota. It will be interesting to see if he’s able to carve out a role for himself with the Illini.
