Illinois is losing a quarterback.

On Wednesday, walk-on Drake Davis announced via Twitter that he will be transferring from the program. The Naperville, Illinois native just completed his first season in Champaign. He did not play for the Illini this fall.

“I will be transferring from the University of Illinois,” Davis wrote. “My recruitment is open. Thank you to the University of Illinois.”

Davis also posted a photo of his transfer request.

Davis was one of the top players in his area as a high school prospect. He was the 2017 Naperville Sun Player of the Year and was also an Illinois All-State selection. He threw for 9,878 yards and accounted for 108 touchdowns in his career.

There were no potential landing spots listed in Davis’ message.
