Illinois lost some depth at running back Wednesday with the news that freshman Reggie Corbin will miss the 2015 season with a torn labrum, coach Tim Beckman announced.

Corbin was expected to compete for playing time behind starter Josh Ferguson, who returns after leading the Illini in rushing in 2014.

A former three-star recruit, Corbin was the top-ranked running back out of Washington D.C. He was looking to help an Illinois ground attack that finished 111th in the country last season.

Illinois has already had its fair share of injuries this offseason. Go-to receiver Mike Dudek tore his ACL in the spring and top defensive end Jihad Ward had a knee injury of his own that will cost him the first two games of 2015.

One of Corbin’s running back mates, Dre Brown, also suffered a torn ACL in spring practice.

With Illinois depleted at the position, it’ll turn to juco transfer Henry Enyenihi to add depth.
