After 4 seasons at Illinois, an Illini running back looks to be heading elsewhere to continue his college football career elsewhere. On Monday, Jakari Norwood announced he has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Norwood announced the news by sharing a screenshot of his notification that Illinois has entered his name into the portal. Players are not bound to transfer out once entering the portal, they can withdraw, but Norwood’s use of a plane emoji in the tweet certainly suggests he plans to follow through and leave the program.

A Pompano Beach, Florida native out of Deerfield Beach High School, Norwood joined the program in 2018. In his first season, Norwood played in 3 games and redshirted. In 2019, he appeared in 6 games, logging 15 carries for 94 yards. Norwood appeared in just 1 game in 2020. This past season, he played in 9 games, recording 27 carries for 120 yards.

Illinois has applied Norwood’s 2020 COVID waiver, considering him a sophomore each of the last 2 seasons. He’ll have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining. Norwood is a cousin of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
