Illinois is finding its footing against Eastern Illinois in the 2024 season opener, and the offense did not wait long before finding the end zone.

The first points of the game came after a sustained 10-play drive down the field. The Illini eventually faced a 2nd-and-goal from the 15-yard line, and quarterback Luke Altmyer looked toward his favorite target.

Pat Bryant had worked his way open across the middle of the field, and Altmyer had enough room to step into his throw. It was a clean connection to give the Illini their first points of 2024.

Last season, Bryant led Illinois with 7 receiving touchdowns while finishing 3rd on the team with 560 receiving yards. With Isaiah Williams and Casey Washington off to the NFL, Bryant could be in line for an even bigger role this fall, and he’s off to a fast start.

Altmyer is also off to a fast start for Illinois. After throwing 13 passing touchdowns all of 2023, he added a 2nd quick touchdown before the first quarter of the 2024 season elapsed.

Altmyer connected with Tanner Arkin on a short passing touchdown to finish the opening quarter 7-for-9 for 62 yards with the 2 scores.
