An Illinois wide receiver has decided to give his college football career a try elsewhere.

On Monday, Edwin Carter announced with a post on social media that he has decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal. The receiver joined the Fighting Illini roster in 2018 but has battled injuries each of the last two seasons.

“These last few years at the University of Illinois have taught me a lot,” Carter wrote. “I’m blessed to be able to come here and play for the short time that I did and I’m thankful for Coach [Lovie] Smith to give me the opportunity to play. With that being said I would like to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal.”

Carter played in just one game at Illinois, a 2018 early-season contest against Western Illinois. He caught two passes for 34 yards, both were touchdown receptions. Carter was injured on his second touchdown grab of the game and missed the remainder of the season.

Last year, Carter missed the entire season.

As a recruit, Carter was a 3-star member of Illinois’ 2018 class. He picked the Illini over Mercer, Middle Tennessee and Western Illinois. He did not provide any indication of a potential landing spot.
