Illinois’ task of snapping a two-game losing streak just got a little more difficult.

An hour before No. 24 Illinois was scheduled to tip-off against No. 10 Michigan State, Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer reported that the Fighting Illini will be without both Kofi Cockburn and Andre Curbelo for Tuesday night’s game.

Cockburn is still in concussion protocol and Curbelo is out because of COVID-19 safety protocols. Earlier this week, head coach Brad Underwood said he expected Curbelo to play but did not reveal much information on Cockburn.

Cockburn also missed Friday’s game against Maryland and Curbelo was limited to just 14 minutes due to illness. The Fighting Illin fell 81-65 to the Terrapins in College Park.

It was the second-straight loss for Illinois, also falling to Purdue last Monday.

This season, Cockburn has been a double-double machine for the Illini. He’s averaging 21.1 points and 11.8 rebounds per contest. Curbelo has been excellent all around, posting 10.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

Illinois is 13-5 this season and 6-2 in B1G play. Michigan State sits at 15-3 with a 6-1 mark against league foes. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
