One of Illinois’ top performers off the bench last season has decided to pursue other opportunities.

Sophomore guard Alan Griffin announced via Twitter that he plans to explore other options outside of Champaign. He was the Illini’s leading scorer off the bench for the 2019-20 season, averaging 8.9 points per game and shot 41.6 percent from 3-point range.

“Illini nation, I first want to start off by saying thank you and welcoming me with open arms and supporting me through the years,” Griffin wrote on Twitter. “I also want to thank the university, my teammates, the coaching staff, and all of the staff. After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal. I wish all of the upcoming and current players and the coaching staff best of luck next season. Please respect my decision.”

Griffin also averaged 4.5 rebounds for the Illini this season.

Last season, Griffin posted a career-high 24 points in Illinois’ road win over Northwestern in late February. He scored in double figures in 10 games in his sophomore season.

Griffin also appeared in 30 games for the Illini in the 2018-19 season.
