Illinois unveils gameday threads for home opener vs Purdue
Based off of Illinois’ Week 1 performance against Wisconsin, it could be a long season ahead for the Illini and head coach Lovie Smith.
But one positive for fans in Champagne is that based off of early uniform choices, Illinois will look good on the field regardless of what happens. On Thursday, the team released its uniform choice for Saturday’s home opener against Purdue.

The tweet about this being a solid combo is probably not always true, but it is in this instance. The bold orange is a solid look for Illinois and looks nice with the blue. These colors don’t always mix very well, but this combination really clicks.
Saturday’s tilt should not be quite the challenge as going into Madison. However, Purdue proved to be a capable squad as the Boilermakers defeated Iowa thanks in part to the outstanding play of wide receiver David Bell, who caught three touchdowns in the win.
Slowing Bell will be the priority defensively for Illinois. If that doesn’t happen and the Illini struggle again, at least the uniforms will look nice.
