Illinois has added a defensive lineman to its 2021 recruiting class.

The Fighting Illini landed a verbal pledge from three-star defensive end Sedarius McConnell on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound lineman is out of Atlanta and is considered to be one of the top 100 players from the state of Georgia.

McConnell becomes the fourth player in the 2021 recruiting class to commit to Illinois. He’s the second prospect from Georgia to verbally commit, along with wide receiver Prince Green. Both pledges have come this month.

Several Power Five programs showed interest in McConnell, as the defensive end received 13 offers on the recruiting front. Along with Illinois, other Power Five schools to extend offers include Kansas, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Pitt, Duke, West Virginia and Wake Forest.

Per 247Sports, McConnell is ranked as the No. 72 strong-side defensive end in this year’s class. He’s also the No. 92 overall prospect out of the state of Georgia.

Illinois still sits last in the B1G with the 2021 recruiting class currently.
