James McCourt drills game-winning field goal, Illinois upsets Wisconsin

We’ve just witnessed one of the biggest upsets in the B1G and the nation in Champaign.

On Saturday, Illinois kicker James McCourt lined up for a 39-yard field goal attempt with the Illini trailing No. 6 Wisconsin 23-21. A make, and Illinois would’ve pulled off the biggest upset of the college football season. A miss, and the Illini drop to 2-5.

McCourt drilled the kick and lifted Illinois to a 24-23 victory over Wisconsin, handing the Badgers their first loss of the 2019 season. It was also the first B1G win of the year for the Illini. It was the biggest win of Lovie Smith’s career in Champaign.

Illinois overcame a 20-7 deficit, and even trailed Wisconsin 23-14 in the fourth quarter before pulling off the upset. Below is McCourt’s game-winning boot:
