Jayden Epps suffered a concussion at practice on Tuesday, according to a new statement from Illinois and a clarification from an earlier press conference by coach Brad Underwood.

Epps was released from Carle Hospital on Wednesday after an overnight stay. He is recovering in Champaign with his parents, the statement said.

Epps has emerged as a key contributor as a freshman at Illinois, and he’s averaging 10 points per game while mostly coming off the bench. Overall, Epps has appeared in 29 games with 11 starts. He’s shooting 41.8% from the field and 30% on 3-pointers.

He’s originally from Norfolk, Virginia and was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2022.

Illinois hosts Michigan at 6 p.m. Thursday.
